How we help you
|
Mediation is a way of solving problems between people.
|
|
Mediation helps people find ways of getting together
and talking to each other so they can begin to solve their problems.
|
|
A Mediator is a person who has been trained
to help people sort out their disputes and work towards a solution
they are all happy with.
|
|
This is how mediation works in Cambridge.
- If you and your neighbour are in dispute, you contact us.
We arrange for two mediators to visit you to learn something about the problem.
- If you are willing, we then contact your neighbour and visit them to learn
about the problem from their point of view.
The problem often sorts itself out at this stage.
If not, and everyone is willing:
- We set up a mediation session where we bring you and your neighbour together.
The session is held near your home at a time convenient to all.
Mediation Sessions are run by two mediators.
They have a set patttern designed to make sure
everyone has the chance to have their say without being interrupted.
Sometimes people become angry or upset.
Part of the mediators' job is to make sure things don't get out of control.
The mediators will help you and your neighbour look for a solution to the problem.
They will not try to find fault or decide which party is to blame.
Usually by the end of the session both parties can come to an agreement
which they are willing to accept.
The agreement is usually written down and signed by everyone. It is not legally binding.
